RE: Just want to verify for storage

If you're not going to take your batteries out, at least disconnect the negative sides so there's no parasitic drain. I do it after every trip too. That is unless you have a kill switch. Then just remember to turn it off.....

RE: F150 to F250 now is the time

I've kinda been looking around at some sites in NM thinking about a new F250 V-10 cew cab. I have a 2001 F250 V-10 SD extended cab but I'd like the extra room of a full 4 door. I also want the short bed. There are 2 problems I've run into so far. 1) Dealers here in NM are still too proud of these things. They are still waaaay over-priced. 2) I don't think they'd want my trade, although it is still like new and only has 44k miles.
I'd have to get a smoking hot deal on anything I bought though. There's just too much risk in buying new if Ford goes under.
By the way, if it's not too personal, what did you pay?.....

RE: help, help, help

I'm leaving this one to the 5th wheel guys, but I would try to manually use your brake control at low speed and see if you are getting brakes?
I agree with riverdog. Try this first and if you're getting brakes, re-adjust your controller and make sure you didnt accidentally set on a higher boost level. Also, make sure your brakes are heated up before adjusting.....

RE: truck pricing in NM amazes me

Ken, Ford does not 'make injectors' and in fact buys them from the same manufacturer as everyone else.I spend a lot of time reading on dieselstop and not seen that. How much biodiesel was being used? B5,B20?
These CR fuel systems are the same across the big three and injector problems are something no one needs.
Honestly couldnt tell you Ralf. If I recall correctly, they didnt want you using over 5% bio in them but I heard the city is a standard 20%. To tell you the truth, I don't even know what that means.....

RE: truck pricing in NM amazes me

I just got my 08 for about 15K under MSRP. I am an xplan member so Ford sets the price just below dealer invoice, plus you can get around 9k in rebates right now. Then there is about 1500 in holdback and maybe some dealer cash. The dealers in NM may not be advertising these deals but you should be able to get about the same in NM.
I would think so. My only concern with Ford right now is that I hear they're having probs with the diesel fuel injectors. I know a Fleet Manager with the city here that said he's had a few go bad and Ford won't take responsibility for the defect. Apparently it has something to do with the bio deisel/diesel Ford trucks. He said the Chevy's and GMC's are NOT experiencing the same problems. Anyone else heard of this?.....

truck pricing in NM amazes me

I don't know what it's like around the rest of the country, but here in NM it amazes me how high truck prices still are. I went to Albuquerque dealer sites yesterday, just to see what kind of deals could be had, and the prices on the trucks here are STILL outrageous. I saw trucks still priced at 50 to 60k. I know this is not what you are going to pay, but the incentives to buy were not that good either. I'm not asking the dealers to give these things away but they sure don't seem to want to sell them. My neighbor went to Texas this year and bought a truck for around 15k under what the dealers best price was here. At this rate, you'll still be able to find a brand new 2008 truck in NM in the year 2015, that's if the US auto industry is still around.....

RE: NuWa stops production

I was watching a national news program last night and they were talking about how the Elkhart,IN RV plant closing has just devastated that community. The auto and RV industry has really taken a hard hit. What's really bad is that other businesses in these areas are shutting down too because their economy relies on it. We're in for a tough stretch.....

RE: Question to men towing

Personally, seems to me that folks that must have a really big RV don't really want to "camp", they must want to take their home with them and have all the same convenience as a house.
I will admit that I'm guilty of this too. I don't have a huge rig, but I do want all the comforts of home in it. I like the space my large slide gives me, I like the heating and AC, I like the comfortable bed, I like to take a shower, etc. I don't spend alot of time in the 5er while camping, but when I am in there I like to feel at home.
To me, tent camping is for the younger people out there. I've been there and done that for several years. My 5er is my reward now. Besides, there's no way the wife would camp w/o it.....

RE: Question to men towing

My 5er is 27ft and that's just about perfect for what we do. If your new to towing, I would suggest starting with a smaller RV anyway. In a couple years, after learning all the ins & outs, you could move up in size.
This is the problem i've seen out there, and before some in here jump all over me, i'm not talking about anyone here. There are quite a few guys out there that think it's not "manly" to have a smaller 5er or TT. I've seen the "my rig is bigger than your rig" attitude many times. Then the guy gets in his truck to drive off and has no clue what he's doing.
I guess what i'm trying to say is, start smaller and safer and think big later when you know what you're doing.....

I'm not familiar with the jet orifice. Where exactly is it located? Also, how do you clean the burner?

I'll have to check that vent. Where did the insulation come from? Also, where did you put the fan and how did you get power to it?

RE: checking for obstructions (fridge)

Thanks for the replies guys. Casey, it actually started before I even got the recall notice. I noticed it on our last 2 trips. When I read the recall notice it said that one of the symptoms was the fridge not cooling as it should. I figured that had to be it. Now I'm guessing that is has to be something else. It worked fine until the last 2 trips. Like I said, the freezer works great. It's just the fridge.....

checking for obstructions (fridge)

I took my 5er in for the fridge recall yesterday (another bad experience with this dealer but that's another story) and I'm beginning to think I may have an obstruction somewhere. While reading the recall notice it said that one of the symptoms of the recall was your fridge was not cooling as it should. My freezer is still working great but the fridge is not getting anywhere near as cold as it use to. Where would you look for an obstruction for the fridge? I know someone else had this problem a while back and they found that a piece of insulation was the cause. Do you have to remove the fridge?

RE: Distance from Dealer/Decent APR right now?

Have you considered going through someone such as RVWholesalers? You can get a really good deal on a new 5er and have it delivered. It does cost for delivery but you'll save enough $$ to more than cover the delivery fees. If you're handy at fixing things you can do all the minor repairs yourself. It would be cheaper than towing it 2 hours to a dealer anyway. If you do have something major to fix, then you might have to take it to a dealer. I have not used RVWholesalers but I've seen alot of people post on here about them and most had a favorable experience with them. Just another option to consider.....

RE: Another one bite's the bullet

They were not around that long, were they? I was thinking 2, maybe 3 years?
Ameri-Camp was launched when a group of industry veterans broke away from their respective companies and decided to bring together their collective expertise in making a state-of-the-art towable product. Since then the company has been growing like wildfire and gaining a reputation for quality product and service. In 2003 and 2004, in its first two years of business, Ameri-Camp was given the National Recreational Vehicle Dealer Association’s Quality Circle of Excellence award. This award is given to the manufacturer that produces the highest satisfaction to the customer in quality, service, sales, and partnering, therefore the best possible experience for the dealers and their customers. At Ameri-Camp the saying goes “We are here to build a family of satisfied dealers and product owners; our mission is your having a quality experience with Ameri-Camp. At Ameri-Camp our reputation is building.” AmeriCamp RV

RE: fiver causing throat & nose to burn

I have a 2005 Keystone Copper Canyon and the irritant has never really gone completely away. It has lessened as time goes on but if left closed up in the hot sun it will surface again. Like I said, it's not as strong as it use to be but it's still there.....

RE: Stepping into the RV

Speaking of decks, and I don't mean to hijack your post, but does anyone remember several years back when there was a manufacturer that made an RV with an electric deck? I saw this at an RV show many years ago. It was on rails under a TT or 5er (can't remember which) and a button similar to a slide switch activated it. It was actually pretty big too. I havent seen anything like it since. Is there someone out there that still does this? If memory serves me correct, which it probably does not, it made it alot easier for entry and exit.....

RE: wheel bearings

What is the best grease to use whats in the wheels now is dark brown or black ?
I use the Mobile1 Synthetic bearing grease. Have heard nothing but good about it and it has done well for me. By the way, if you are going to go to all the trouble of taking the wheels apart and taking the bearings out, check them to see if they are made in China. If so, I'd recommend replacing them. I wish I had replaced mine when I did my bearings last year. The next time I will.....
